Do you ever feel like fame is just too much to handle?
No. You know, I was thrust into this business from a very young age due to my parents being in the business, but I didn't actually begin acting until I was about fifteen years old. I knew what I was getting myself into, I saw both my mother and father and the stars of my father's films and what they had to deal with. So, I came into it all with a pretty good head on my shoulders, knowing ahead of time what to expect.
Your face seems to be all over the tabloids these days.
It's crazy how they follow you around, watching you like hawks. They try to knock you down and as long as you don't read what they've written, then it's really no big deal. Some of the pictures are rather unflattering [laughs] but it's nothing I can't handle.
And what about these accusations that you're a drug addict and an alcoholic?
Sometimes I just need to blow off some steam, so I go out clubbing with my friends. And yeah, I drink. But I'm not an alcoholic by any means, and I've never done drugs. I never intend to do drugs; they're not my thing.
Any boys in your life?
Boys? God, no. I don't have time for boys [laughs]. I met a group of very attractive male models the other day, but I didn't get any of their numbers. Shame, really. They were very good looking. And foreign, too!
What is your biggest guilty pleasure right now?
Right now I'm really into watching those goofy reality TV shows. Like, I'm a big fan of Jersey Shore and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. It's crazy! But I just love - no pun intended - keeping up with their drama and and laughing about how my life seems so much easier than theirs.
Celebrity crush?
[gushes] Johnny Depp. I could ogle him forever!
Any bad habits?
I smoke. It's horrible and disgusting and I'm going to die, but it's a habit I just can't kick.
You've been called a bitch on numerous occasions, what's that about?
You know, you can't please everyone. And it's tough, because I can be a bitch. I've learned not to trust easily and I'm pretty guarded, so at first I may come off that way. I don't mean to be a total jerk, and I apologized to those that have seen that side of me. But everyone has bad days, myself included, and on those days I guess I'm not the easiest person to talk to.
Okay, let's talk about 90210. What's it like playing Annie?
Oh, she's adorable. I think she's the first character that I've played that I can totally relate to on this whole different level, and it's interesting. I love the show, I love the cast, and I love waking up in the morning and getting paid to play and have fun! It's a blast.
It had always been in Vidette's nature to be social, and it was that exact quality that had boosted her short-lived modeling career. She loved to meet new people and discuss anything from traveling, to politics, to what kind of food a person preferred. Though, despite her gregarious attitude, she had never been fond of long, drawn out phone conversations. Unless the person on the other line was in some sort of emergency, she preferred them to get straight to the point and make it all short and sweet. Completely painless. Yet somehow, she had managed to withstand an hour long phone chat with Kaler, talking about absolutely nothing of importance without finding herself the slightest bit bored. And she didn't mind one bit. It had come as a complete shock to her when, upon glancing at the clock, she had realized so much time had passed by without either of them even noticing. Could one person capture her attention so effortlessly that he could make her forget even her biggest of pet peeves?
After ending her ridiculously long conversation with him that night, Vidette had lay awake in bed, mind spinning with questions. Kaler was, with absolutely no questions asked, the kind of guy that Viddy had avoided for the past twenty one years. Ever since learning about the existence of guys like him - guys with women dangling on each arm and eyes that could make even the toughest of women swoon - she had sworn to stay away from them; she didn't need that drama in her life and, besides, she was above all of that. She was a lady, and ladies deserved to be treated with respect. However, Kaler seemed to exceed all of her expectations. He was funny and actually listened to what she had to say, rather than pretend to be interested for the sole purpose of dragging her to bed with him. It puzzled her but excited her at the same time, and that's what caused all of this underlying confusion.
Now, as he stood over her with that little grin that was so distinctly Kaler, she couldn't help but feel relieved that he was finally here. He was finally home and every question she had last night was long gone from her mind. The pink tint of her cheeks dissipated, and the embarrassing attempt at a smile was replaced with a genuinely playful grin. "Yeah, I'm good right? By far better than that Kelly Clarkson girl," she teased, pushing herself up onto her feet and once again climbing onto the back of the couch. Her hands went to his shoulders, using them as leverage to hop down from her perch and land safely on the floor - the last thing she needed today was to fall again - and clapped excitedly at the mention of her cookies. "They're in the kitchen. Follow me!"
Vidette manuevered around him, making her first motions toward the kitchen before she stopped, a sudden memory resurfacing in the forefront of her mind. Over the course of their phone conversation, Kaler had briefly mentioned the death of his mother, a topic that Damian had failed to inform her of. She turned around, all quirkiness erased from her expression and on a sudden impulse she wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders, burrowing her small face into his neck. The smell of his cologne washed over her, nearly cutting off the rational part of her brain - she was a serious sucker for decent cologne - but she managed to focus, whispering a soft "I'm sorry about your mom," into his ear. One of her hands came to rest on the side of his neck, lips tenderly touching the underside of his jaw. "I'm sorry," she whispered again. She pulled away, just a few centimeters, to look into his eyes, wanting to convey how sorry she really felt. Fortunately, she had never had to deal with losing someone she deeply cared for, but she couldn't begin to imagine how hard it must have been for the twins to lose their mother. Losing her own mother would absolutely destroy her.
Her eyes lingered on his handsome face for a few more moments, and despite the nagging in the back of her mind that tempted her to kiss him, she finally released her loose hold on his shoulders and turned her back to him. "So, cookies!" Her small feet padded across the hard wood flooring and into the kitchen where two large platefulls of cookies sat waiting for them on the counter. She took one from one of the plates, sliding onto one of the barstools, eyes fluttering closed and a moan slipping through her lips as her first bite of the cookie practically melted on her tongue. "I don't think I've ever tasted a cookie this good in my life." Growing up, her mother had been one of the best bakers Vidette had ever met. She would bake cakes, scones, pies, cookies, brownies, and all different pastry assortments, each new batch turning out better than the previous one. Her father had always said that great cooking ran in the family, and that someday, one of them should open their own restaurant or bakery, for this amazing food should be shared with the rest of the world. Vidette had always laughed at that, knowing that she wouldn't be the one to do so and her mother was never confident enough to cook for outsiders. "It's a family recipe," she would say. "Meant for family and only family."
Sometimes, a large part of Vidette wished her parents lived nearby. Watching them go back to the United Kingdom was one of the most upsetting moments in Vidette's life; knowing they wouldn't only be thousands of miles away, but on different continents all together completely freaked her out. If being on opposite sides of the world from her parents bothered Vidette, it was a complete wonder to her how Kaler and Damian could survive knowing their mother wasn't even alive. It terrified her, and yet, at the same time, it made her respect the twins even more. They were strong, and visiting home must have been hard on them. That thought alone nearly had Vidette out of her seat and in Kaler's arms again, but she refrained herself, not wanting to creep him out after he had just gotten here. So, rather than getting clingy, she finished the rest of her cookie and reached over to turn the music up on her iHome, the sound of Mutemaths' Spotlight dragging her out of her chair. "Dance with me," she smiled, slipping her hand into Kaler's much bigger one. Her hips moved hypnotically to the beat, a playful smile on her lips. "Please?" Vidette stuck her lower lip out in a pout, giving him what could only be called the 'puppy dog look', before letting go of his hand and twirling away from him, once again singing in a ridiculously off-key tone.
She had just made it to the stairs when Dani, unbeknownst to Vidette, ran towards her and jumped up, paws hitting Vidette's stomach and knocking her backwards. Luckily she didn't fall, rather she stumbled into the wall and gripped the banister for support, hand reaching up to cover her mouth as she laughed. "Dani!" she squealed, but before she could reach down to pet the furry animal that had almost caused yet another embarrassing tumble in front of Kaler, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist, holding her in place. Her body froze, head tilting upwards and her brown eyes met Kaler's piercing blue ones. For a moment, she was completely stunned, but as her heart began to beat at a far more rapid pace and her stomach began to feel all jittery and overall weird, Vidette slowly began to realize that being held by him wasn't so bad. In fact, she almost welcomed the gesture, relaxing against him as the corners of her lips tugged upwards in a gentle smile.
But then it occurred to her how weird this all was. For God's sakes, this was Kaler. The only physical contact the two ever had involved a bed and a lack of clothes; they didn't cuddle or get intimate or hold one another. That wasn't in the contract, therefore it was not what she had signed up for. So, with a nervous laugh, she slipped out of his arms and danced up the stairs like nothing had happened, the smile returning to her face almost instantly. She was not, under any circumstances, going to let herself fall for a guy like Kaler Desmarais. Not only would that be a really bad idea, but she wasn't sure she could handle the heartbreak that was sure to come if she did.
